IP Intercom Planner

Count the door stations, indoor monitors and guard stations for an IP video intercom, with the PoE power, switch ports and call bandwidth.

Results

Indoor monitors: 40

Devices in total: 43

PoE power: 274 W (329 W with 20% headroom)

PoE switch ports: 43 (2 x 24-port switches, before spares)

Video call bandwidth: 4.0 Mbps

For IP video intercoms powered by PoE. Door stations that release locks usually need a separate lock power supply: size it with the Access Control Power Supply Calculator. Long runs to a gate may need fibre or a PoE extender.

How it works

Indoor monitors are the units x monitors per unit. PoE power is each kind of station x its power, added up, with 20% headroom shown. Every station takes one PoE switch port. Call bandwidth is the calls at once x the bandwidth of one video call.

Good to know. These calculators use the formulas and standards the industry works to, so they give you a sound first answer for planning and quoting. They can't see your site, though, so treat the result as a guide rather than the final word: check it against the manufacturer's datasheets, the relevant Australian Standard and, for fire and life-safety systems, the designer's own calculation before you buy or install. We provide them free as a guide and can't take responsibility for decisions made on the result alone. Want a second opinion? Our team is happy to check your figures.
