Charges: $540 (6 charged)

Staff time: $495

Other losses: $0

Cost per false alarm: $173

Cost a year: $1,035

Over three years: $3,105

Most false alarms come from a few causes: a door not shut, a detector in the wrong place, a flat battery or a user code mistake. Finding the cause, and checking a camera before anyone is sent, usually costs less than one year of call-outs.

How it works

Charges apply to the false alarms after any free ones, at the charge per alarm. Staff time is every false alarm x the hours lost x the hourly cost. Other losses are added per alarm. The three-year figure is the yearly cost x 3.
