Wasabi

Wasabi Technologies was founded in 2017 in Boston, Massachusetts, by Carbonite co-founders David Friend and Jeff Flowers, and remains privately held. Its core product, Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage, is an S3 and IAM API-compatible object storage service that keeps all data on a single "hot" tier rather than splitting it across hot, warm and cold tiers, with no fees for egress or API requests. Wasabi runs storage regions across the Americas, EMEA and APAC, including an Australian region (ap-southeast-2) hosted at Equinix in Sydney. In April 2026 Wasabi announced it would acquire Seagate's Lyve Cloud business, with Seagate becoming a Wasabi shareholder.

For video surveillance, Wasabi packages this storage as Wasabi Surveillance Cloud: bridge software pairs an existing on-premises VMS or NVR with Wasabi cloud storage, then applies policies that move footage to the cloud automatically -- after a set age, or once local storage reaches a capacity threshold -- while recent footage stays on site. Bucket immutability and virtual air gapping help preserve chain of custody for investigations. Wasabi lists integrations with VMS and camera platforms including Milestone, Genetec, Avigilon, Axis and Hanwha. For integrators, it extends an existing system's retention and off-site protection without replacing the recording platform or hardware already installed.
