Surveillance Cloud, or the storage on its own

Most security sites want the first: the existing recorders keep running and older footage overflows to the cloud. The second is the same storage on its own, for software that already writes to S3. We help you choose on retention, upload bandwidth and how the footage needs to be protected.

Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage

The storage underneath, available on its own for any application that writes to S3. Everything sits in one hot tier, so there is no wait to bring old data back, and the charge is for capacity only, with no fees for egress or API requests.

Keeping footage longer, and keeping it safe

Wasabi does not record or analyse video. Its job is to give an existing system more room and an off-site copy that cannot be tampered with. These are the parts that matter on a security job.

Works with the VMS you have

WSC works with the major video management systems, among them Milestone XProtect, AXIS Camera Station, Nx Witness, Vivotek VAST Security Station, OpenEye and Hanwha. It follows the VMS’s own retention settings, so operators keep working the way they do now.

Disaster recovery copy

With the Disaster Recovery policy on, which is the default, each recording is copied to Wasabi as soon as the VMS closes the file. If a recorder is damaged, stolen or encrypted, the off-site copy can be restored. It can run alongside Storage Extension.

Evidence that cannot be changed

Object Lock and immutable buckets keep footage write-once for a set retention period. In compliance mode no one, not even Wasabi’s own engineers, can alter or delete it early, which helps hold the chain of custody for an investigation. It is switched on when the bucket is created.

Covert Copy and sign-off

Covert Copy keeps a hidden, locked copy of a bucket that only privileged users can see, kept in step every 30, 60 or 90 days. Multi-User Authorization means one stolen login is not enough: several administrators must approve before the copy is opened or a bucket is deleted.

Source monitoring

An optional dashboard on the server running WSC tracks local free space, upload speed against recording speed, and the services doing the work. It emails an alert when a threshold is crossed, and warns when the local drives look like filling within three days.

Wasabi Technologies was founded in 2017 in Boston, Massachusetts, by Carbonite co-founders David Friend and Jeff Flowers, and remains privately held. Its core product, Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage, is an S3 and IAM API-compatible object storage service that keeps all data on a single "hot" tier rather than splitting it across hot, warm and cold tiers, with no fees for egress or API requests. Wasabi runs storage regions across the Americas, EMEA and APAC, including an Australian region (ap-southeast-2) hosted at Equinix in Sydney. In April 2026 Wasabi announced it would acquire Seagate's Lyve Cloud business, with Seagate becoming a Wasabi shareholder.

For video surveillance, Wasabi packages this storage as Wasabi Surveillance Cloud: bridge software pairs an existing on-premises VMS or NVR with Wasabi cloud storage, then applies policies that move footage to the cloud automatically -- after a set age, or once local storage reaches a capacity threshold -- while recent footage stays on site. Bucket immutability and virtual air gapping help preserve chain of custody for investigations. Wasabi lists integrations with VMS and camera platforms including Milestone, Genetec, Avigilon, Axis and Hanwha. For integrators, it extends an existing system's retention and off-site protection without replacing the recording platform or hardware already installed.
