Discovery, or ChallengerPlus

Both panels run intruder alarms and access control from one set of users, areas and doors, and both are sold and supported in Australia by Aritech. We choose on the size of the site, the hardware already on the wall and how the system will be managed.

Tecom Discovery

Discovery is Aritech’s newest Tecom panel. It keeps the Challenger feature set, adds programming from a web browser built into the panel, and mounts on a DIN rail. There is enough processing headroom for new features to arrive by firmware rather than extra hardware.

ChallengerPlus builds on Challenger10 and Challenger V8, and works with their peripherals, so an older Challenger site can move up without rewiring every module. Thousands of programmable options let it follow each organisation’s own security procedures.

Site maps in WMS Pro

WMS Pro is the web-based management software for Tecom systems. Guards, reception and managers work from site maps, while cardholders, access rights, photo ID cards and reports are handled in the same place.

TecomPlus on your phone

The TecomPlus app connects through UltraSync to arm and disarm areas, open doors, isolate inputs and switch lights. It also edits users, PINs and expiry dates, and shows live and recorded TruVision video.

Doors and lifts

Access control is built into the panel rather than added on, so doors and alarm areas share the same users and the same event history. Network Access Controllers add more doors and manage lift access as well.

Network Access Controllers

The NAC connects straight to the management software or to a Discovery or ChallengerPlus panel. The 8-door TS1066 suits sites short on wall space, a 4-door version suits smaller jobs, and the TS1067E adds Wiegand readers.

WMS Pro automations run actions on a schedule or in response to an event, such as unlocking the foyer at opening time or acting on a door held open. Device asset tracking keeps service records for every controller and module.

Monitored over UltraSync

UltraSync gives Tecom panels an encrypted link to the monitoring station and the TecomPlus app. Panels can report to monitoring, management software and third-party systems at the same time, with a backup path if one fails.

Teracom and Tecom Challenger

What Teracom does on a Tecom job

  1. Design

    Areas, inputs, doors and lifts planned from the site drawings, and the right panel and controllers chosen, including what can be kept on an older Challenger site.

  2. Install and commission

    Panels, modules, detectors and readers installed and wired, every input tested, and users, areas and access levels programmed before handover.

  3. Connect to monitoring

    Alarms can report over UltraSync to our monitoring centre for after-hours response.

  4. Look after it

    Firmware, software maintenance, battery checks and input testing handled on a maintenance plan, so the system stays current and supported.

Tecom Challenger is a combined intrusion-detection and access-control panel platform first developed by Tecom Systems in Melbourne in 1989, and it remains one of the most widely installed integrated security panels across Australia and New Zealand. The current range is led by Discovery, designed, developed and manufactured in Australia, alongside ChallengerPlus and Challenger10, and pairs a modular, add-as-you-go hardware architecture with software that lets a single panel manage both burglar-alarm zones and access-controlled doors from one interface, rather than running separate systems — reducing hardware and programming overhead on combined intrusion-and-access sites.

The brand has passed through several corporate owners over its history and is currently sold and supported in Australia under the Aritech brand, part of Kidde Global Solutions (formed in December 2024 when Lone Star Funds acquired Carrier's fire and security business). Despite the ownership changes, Challenger's core panel architecture and backward compatibility with earlier hardware have been maintained, protecting existing installations from forced upgrades. It is a separate product line from Gallagher — the two are competing, not related, systems.
