Milestone Systems, a Denmark-based company owned by Canon, makes XProtect, one of the most widely deployed open-platform video management software (VMS) systems in the industry. Being open-platform means XProtect is designed to work with cameras and hardware from many different manufacturers rather than locking a customer into one vendor's camera range, which is a big part of why it's used across such a broad range of surveillance deployments.
